Essay, photo contest celebrates 10th foreigners' day

March 06, 2017

The Ministry of Justice (MOJ) is holding an essay and photo contest to mark the 10th Together Day on May 20, which celebrates lives of foreigners in Korea.

Hosted by MOJ, the Together Day was designated to establish a social environment where Korean nationals and migrants understand each other's culture.

The contest aims to encourage contestants to reflect on the lives of foreigners in Korea and highlight the values of multiculturalism.

This year, the MOJ is inviting all nationalities, including Koreans, because the event marks its decennial edition. There are no restrictions on gender or age as long as contestants live in Korea.

There are three themes for the essay contest: a successful story of a foreigner or immigrant settling in Korea; a personal experience of spending time with or supporting them; or a story of foreigners and Koreans living in harmony.

The essay should be written in Korean and be no longer than three A4 pages.

The photo contest should depict the topic "Harmony enables everyone to be happy" or foreigners and Koreans sharing cultural traditions. At least three photos should be submitted.

The submission deadline for both contests is Mar. 31.

The MOJ will announce the winners on Apr. 28 and present the prizes on May 19. Their work will be posted on the Together Day website (www.togetherday.kr) and also exhibited offline.
