Why are you still single?

January 17, 2017

Yes, I decided to post a picture of me at Pikes Place Market with a cute couple in the background, taking pictures together. I thought it made perfect sense to attach it along with this post!

Being single can have it’s up’s and downs. Heck, I’ve been single my entire life and I have no idea what it’s like not to be. The idea of not being single scares me a lot. However, the thing is that I cannot wait to be able to love someone with all my ability while at the same time feeling fearful for depending on someone since vulnerability is something I try to avoid.

Before I go further on with this post, there are people who truly choose to be single because they haven’t matured to committing to one person. I won’t be discussing those factors in this post mainly because this is directed towards people who wonder why they are still single and what they are doing “wrong”.

You may be single for a number of reasons and not be being good enough is not one of them!

One reason can be that you’re just not ready to put yourself out there and you’re wise enough to wait instead of wasting someone else’s time for your own sake. Not only are you saving the other person’s time, but you’re saving your own time to spend with yourself. People continuously ask me why I choose not to date or why I have never been in a relationship and the answer is always because I am just flat out, not ready. Maybe I’ll be ready tomorrow, but for now, it’s not my time and I know that because I still don’t know a lot of things about myself, which I believe is crucial to know before ever getting involved with someone else.

Another reason can be that you just haven’t met anyone worth your while or has fulfilled any of your standards. I carry high expectations and standards for my future relationship, and not to sound rude or anything, but I am not impressed with the majority of guys that I have gotten to know in the past. Now if you’re a guy and you’re reading this, you may be thinking to yourself that you’re not like “other guys” and you’re “different” which I would probably agree with! But you’re the 10% of guys in our society that are mature and serious enough about commitment. Aside from this, I’m sure there are a lot of mature guys out there in the world who respect women, but it’s not just kindness and maturity that sweeps a girl off her feet. For me at least, there has to be some sort of chemistry between us or else I just don’t feel connected to someone without the sparks. That’s why I was never impressed with the guys in my past because there were no sparks between us. A guy can seem so perfect, but when it comes to being with you, it might not feel perfect at all. I’m the kind of person who will wait as long as I have to for my Mr. Right, but knowing I’ll be blessed with the best, makes all the waiting worthwhile. Which brings me to my next point.

The last reason can be portrayed as “unrealistic” and “illogical” but I believe that you are still single because you just haven’t met your soulmate yet. That’s right, I said it. True love does exist, and I believe that with all my heart so I will confidently tell anyone that without feeling shameful. I believe that fairytales do exist and can happen, which also means that Snow White and Prince Charming are real beings, except that there isn’t just one Snow White and Prince Charming. I believe everyone has a Prince Charming! I feel like everyone has a soulmate the same way Snow White did. You can call me crazy, irrational, and even delusional, but I believe life itself has the pure potential to push two individuals together by fate and destiny. I can already see all the people reading this and thinking how delusional I am. I give you the absolute right to think that way because talking with such faith and optimism like this is so rare in our society today. Unfortunately, our world has become a place where we are expected to voice our ideas and opinions in a “normal” tone, known to lack hope in all forms.

I know these reasons can seem a bit overreaching, but I challenge you to accept what I’m saying because I believe once you do, you become open to getting to know yourself and what you want out of your future relationships during your time of being single. You’ll start to see yourself worthy while carrying high standards which every woman should acknowledge considering how precious and special everyone is in their own way.

Being single is temporary, so spend your time wisely. Be Independently in love with yourself before anyone.
