10 Tips to Run Better - Before Running - After Running

Before Running:
1. If you eat a large meal before a run, wait at least three hours before you head out. Almost nothing you eat immediately before a run will digest enough to give you energy during your run. If you do have to eat, choose something your system can easily absorb, such as a banana, a few spoonfuls of peanut butter or honey, or a handful of dried fruit.

2. Drink at least 8 oz. of water a half hour before heading out to prevent dehydration. If you're going for longer than a 10K, you might consider taking a water bottle or planning a route that has a water stop along the way. Staying hydrated will keep your legs from cramping, especially in hot weather.

3. You may be tempted to do intense stretching to get warmed up, but try Chi Running Body Looseners instead. Ankle rolls, hip rotations, and knee circles are a few gentle exercises you can do to get your body loose and relaxed without straining cold muscles and joints. 4. Begin your runs with a very relaxed and easy stride - not too fast. Increase your pace slowly until you're running at your desired level. If you start off too fast, you risk running out of gas early in your run, and you'll feel more soreness in your legs afterward.

5. Track the mileage on your shoes. At about 500 miles, mid-soles can become too compressed to return to their original shape between runs, and your feet and legs will begin to notice. Be sure to replace your shoes regularly.

After Running:
6. After a three to five minute cool down jog, stretch thoroughly. Don't just jump back into your car and head off to your next event, or you could be walking around with tight legs for the rest of the day. Doing a cooldown and stretching period allows the lactic acid (the byproduct created by your muscles) to be flushed out into your bloodstream and eliminated from your body.

7. Take a hot bath or relax in a hot tub after your workout if you can. Soaking your legs warms your muscles and relaxes them back into their normal shapes. A shower doesn't work as well, unfortunately, but it's still good for your legs if a bath is out of the question.

8. Do "leg drains" by lying on your back with your legs extended vertically and feet propped against a wall for three to four minutes. This drains the blood out of your legs so fresh, clean blood can be pumped back into them when you stand up. You can do leg drains either immediately after stretching or after your bath. Either way, you'll notice a markedly different pair of legs under you when you get up.

9. If you've just done a strenuous workout, one of your next two meals should be a solid protein meal, which helps your muscles rebuild themselves. Add a hearty green salad and fresh vegetables to replenish your system with valuable minerals.

10. Whether or not you're a regular runner, you should be drinking water all day long. Eight to 10 glasses of water spread throughout the day will replenish the fluid lost to exercise. Don't drink your water all at once; just keep an even flow going.

Samsung Galaxy S8 - New Specs

Samsung Galaxy S8 Is Here, but Wait, It Doesn’t Have A Home Button

Samsung’s latest phone attempts to be better, cleaner, and sleeker than its competition. In its launch, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ boast larger screens than its predecessor, the S7, and S7 Edge. However, the phones themselves are smaller.

The New Specs

The biggest feature of the reveal (both literally and figuratively) is the S8’s screen. The S8 and S8+ have displays measuring 14.7 cm (5.8 in) and 15.7 cm (6.2 in) respectively.

This pushes the screens nearly to fill the entire device, and something on previous front faces had to go. Samsung removed the home button with an on-screen feature to access the phone. It also removed its own company logo, an idea that might ultimately pay off for a company fighting bad PR.

The screens themselves also boast an upgrade with high dynamic range (HDR) playback for a crisper video image. Given that the phones themselves are smaller than other versions, the company says users can still manage the phones with one hand.

The camera remains largely unchanged at 12MP. However, the S8 does come with a boosted 8MP front-camera and cleaner autofocus. Speaking of cameras, the phones come with an iris scanner rather than fingerprint IDs.

Retinal scanning (and facial recognition in general) has been a concept Apple toyed with and was rumored to include with the upcoming iPhone 8.

Meet Bixby, the Samsung Assistant

Between Siri, Alexa, and Google Home, the market for AI assistants is getting crowded. However, it didn’t stop Samsung from launching Bixby into the mix. The Siri-esque assistant is “context-aware,” according to developers. This means it predicts follow-up needs of a user based on current apps.

Bixby also comes with a location feature that identifies objects or landmarks. For example, if a user took a picture of a sneaker, Bixby would tell a user how much that sneaker costs and the nearest place one could purchase the shoes.

Currently, the only app that corresponds with Bixby upon launch is Google Play Music. Developers hope to expand the realm to include other apps. Also, Bixby can only recognize English and Korean voices — another feature Samsung wishes to grow.

But Can Samsung Galaxy S8 Overcome the Note 7?

This particular launch and public reveal not only has to debut a new product but persuade the public to trust the brand after two separate product recalls.

The Galaxy Note 7 hit markets in August 2016, but it was only 22 days after its reveal that the first product explosion was reported. In September, Samsung issued its first recall on the Note 7 phones due to its batteries. However, the company issued its second recall just a month later in October after several more incidents, including a device catching fire on a plane. (And these technical issues don’t even include Samsung’s vice-chairman Lee Jae-yong getting arrested last month on bribery charges.)

Samsung even installed additional safety regulations on its products. The company went so far as to make a separate advertisement about its new eight-point safety checks:

The company also managed to buoy its stocks despite the Note 7 controversy largely thanks to the success of the Galaxy S7.

The phones will hit markets April 21, and the price point currently sits at £690 (roughly $850 USD) for the S8 and £780 (roughly $970 USD) for the S8+.

Rule No.7: People will always tell you who they are. Believe them the first time.

We tend to ignore the facts and accept and even fall in love with the idea of the people we built up in our minds. Sooner or later reality will clash with such imaginary constructs and pain is then inevitable. Try to stay objective and keep idealization at a minimum so that you will be able to see people for what they truly are and not as you would want them to be. And everyone is unintentionally helping you in this.

You see, people have an uncontainable urgency to tell you who they are. Every. Single. Time. However, not with their words. Words are compressed air, they mean little and are worth even less, especially to narcissists who will say what you need to hear once they get to know you. Their actions, however, their actions always speak the truth about who they truly are. Believe them. Actions talk. Bullshit walks.

Rule No.6: Protect your own. Keep everyone else at a distance.

A man needs three things: a steel sword to protect his family; a silver sword to keep the beasts at bay; and a pure heart to be able to distinguish between the two. That last part is the trickiest one.

Rule No.5: Never betray a friend or a spouse.

I have a BSc in Neurobiology from one of the best North American universities and a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from one of the oldest Greek ones. I speak three languages. I have published a dozen scientific papers and numerous articles. Condensed 2-pages CVs are hard for me to construct because of all the facts I have to leave out. And yet, I know that all those accomplishments were simply the result of hard work and dedication, I am not particularly proud of any of them. Do you know what is the single thing I am truly proud off? The fact that I never, ever let down a friend or betrayed the trust of a girl.

Rule No.4: Do your very best. Every time.

If you want to be able, wherever you lay down your head, to sleep with a light heart and a clear conscience, you have to be able to honestly say to yourself: “today, I did my very best”. If it was not enough, tomorrow you may get another chance - or maybe not. It does not matter. Your best is all that can be expected from you.

Rule No.3: Forgive the shortcomings of others. Every day.

When others fail you or even intentionally wrong you, forgive them. It would be utopic to expect anyone to forget as well yet do not waste your future by dwelling in the past. There is only one direction in life: ahead. And the path is far from easy so try not to burden yourself with old weight. Especially if it is not yours to carry.

Rule No.2: This too shall pass.

I lost my mother at a young age. I still miss her dearly - yet I survived. Some years later, I was paralyzed for months from Guillain-Barre syndrome. I did not know if I was to ever walk again - yet fully recovered. Ten years later, human pettiness denied me the University professor tenure-track position I had been working all of my life towards. Almost immediately following this major professional setback, I was divorced by my wife of 9 years. And I had to come to grips with all this at the height of the Greek economic crisis, which left me essentially unemployed for more than a year. So, believe me when I tell you that, no matter the difficulty or misfortune you are currently in: this too shall pass. Happiness is a choice. It is not the place where you find yourself into. It is what you choose to focus upon.

Rule No.1: God loves you and is watching your every step.

The great majority of people beleive in the existence of God. However, it is not until one believes in His loving Providence that the powers of faith get unleashed. Try to enjoy this life as much as you can yet never forget that this world is our exile.

Because, sooner or later, one way or another, we are all going home.
